For Journal two, we're required to talk about our favorite movie and why. I chose the Transformers series as my favorite movie/s, for a couple reasons. For me, it's not about the lighting or the camera angles or any of those things. To me, the most important things about a movie are the plot and the underlying message. Some are obvious, others are not.
Firstly, the thing about Transformers that caught my attention was the fact that it is fiction based on theories that are still unproven. What do I mean? Aliens, of course. We don't necessarily have proof of any alien existence, but Transformers took a much used theory of aliens and gave it all new parameters. Instead of tall, green, bug-like individuals the aliens are depicted as giant robotic organisms that are both against and for destroying the Earth.
Secondly, the underlying message or messages are simple. Good triumphs over evil is the basis, but there are other messages as well. For instance, in the movie, the government knows about the Transformers and doesn't release this information to the public. To me, this is an accurate plot point, because if the Transformers did exist, we, the general public, would have little to no knowledge of these things. The government is secretive, they highlighted that as a plot point, and for those reasons it caught my attention and held it.

Journal 1; Seahawks/Packers Controversy
"Winning isn't the Only Thing" By: David Maraniss
A Green Bay Packers fan’s lament: Commentary

“Winning
Isn’t the Only Thing” by David Maraniss
In
the Washington Post, David Mariniss published an article, titled above, that
was displayed in the Sports section on September 25. Maraniss told the remarkable tale of how the
Green Bay Packers recently fell to a losing record at the hands of the Seattle
Seahawks, former Wisconsin Badger quarterback Russel Wilson, and a team of
‘incompetent’ replacement officials. Not only does he speak about the
ridiculous Hail-Mary/interception ruled a touchdown, but Mariniss delves
further into the issue; that of NFL GM Roger Goodell trying to crush the
Referee Union. In the end, Mariniss discusses how he felt about the blown call,
and the attitudes and reactions that came from the Seahawks' coach and QB.
All
in all, I could not agree more with David Mariness, for he spoke from a
generally unbiased approach. He did say that he was a Packer fan, due to the
community ownership, but he also mentioned that he was an avid Russel Wilson
fan, as well. Mariness got down to the point that it wasn’t the result of the
game that angered him, but rather the events leading up to it. I also feel that
the oppression of the NFL Referee Union was more than unnecessary, and is the
ultimate cause of the Packers losing start to their season. I also agreed when
Mariniss began to chip in on the Seahawks coach and QB being arrogant after the
game. It was a blown call, that much is true. Anyone who watched the game could
tell you that, but overall I believe Mariniss was right; it’s not just winning
that is important, details matter. However that's my opinion. Everyone is entitled to their own.
